Leaders in Training
Four weeks that will change you from the inside out... Take time this summer to develop and hone your leadership skills in a unique and challenging program that intertwines engaging teaching with daily practical personal challenges. This premiere program is a priority for youth wanting to discover more about themselves and their own potential for leadership. The model of Christ as a servant leader is central to this program.
Our Leader-In-Training (LIT) Program is designed as an ideal transition between being a camper and becoming a staff member. The program emphasizes the development of Christian and leadership skills in an adventure-learning context. It offers a balance of formal training, mentoring and practical hands-on experience.
Leadership for tomorrow…
“I want to give back to Camp Kwasind, everything that Kwasind gave to me.”
Leadership development is a cornerstone of Camp Kwasind. We believe that good leaders are those who combine confidence and skill in the outdoors with a sensitivity and dedication to the personal growth and development of people. Our leader in training program is designed to meet these goals in a way that can be applied to all aspects of life. Leaders in Training will function in co-ed groups, supervised by two staff. The program provides opportunities for growth and development rarely found today.
Servant leaders are what we strive to build up in this four week program.
Week 1
The program starts with a weeklong canoe trip with the whole LIT group. This week works to break down internal barriers and build individual spiritual self-discipline and growth.
Week 2
Week two of the program concentrates on practical leadership skills training. Theories are taught, and then tested in real life situations within the camp context. Learning comes from planning, testing and then de-briefing about the work done.
Week 3
The third week of the program sees the leaders-in-training placed in a cabin with campers. Here they are given varying roles and responsibilities within the cabin group setting to lead, assist, and instruct. They will work with two other cabin staff, and up to 10 campers. Throughout the week the LIT leaders and other senior camp staff resource them.
Week 4
The final week of leaders in training focuses on works by the participants. Practical assistance and learning in all areas of responsibility around the camp augments continued training and personal spiritual development. Random acts of kindness are always welcome aspects of this week.
The participants of the Leaders in Training program will also receive training and instruction in Bronze Medallion lifesaving as part of the program.
Those who successfully complete the program often find themselves more actively involved in leadership roles both at school, in their community and in their own home church.

Kwasind’s leadership program is designed to provide teenagers with knowledge and skills in communication, decision making, camping, problem solving, understanding diversity and sustainable living. In addition, it is anticipated that they will make positive contributions toward creating healthy and sustainable communities. Campers practice being leaders through their participation in outdoor activities, focused activities and service. Many LIT graduates consider this program one of the most valuable experiences of their lives.
Program Acceptance
We will be interviewing all applicants prior to confirming their acceptance into the Leaders in Training program. This is intended to help ensure that candidates fully understand the expections that the camp has of them as a Leader in Training and that the program is appropriately embraced by the participants.
